Trends in Pool Design

When the weather turns warmer, particularly here in the South, our thoughts turn to water and outdoor living.  There’s just something extremely appealing to our senses about being in or near the water.  Gone are the days of a simple backyard swimming pool. The latest swimming pool designs are geared towards a versatile space for leisure and entertainment to be used not only in the summer, but year round.  As they’re becoming a common feature of our backyards, more designers and landscape architects have directed their attention to pools.

Your pool should blend with the dimensions of your yard, the lines of your home and be appealing to the eye.   Toward this, there are many features that can be incorporated into the design.  Following are just a few current trends in pool design.

Sun Shelves

Also known as a Baja shelf, a sun shelf can make you feel as though you are at a 5-star resort.  A sun shelf is a flat, shallow area in your pool, typically before the deep end of the swimming pool. Due to its shallow depth, a sun shelf is also an excellent area for small children, a family pet, to cool off during a hot summer afternoon.

Hydrotherapy Jets

It’s no secret that a pool has many health benefits. In particular, hydrotherapy uses water and pressure to revitalize your body.  As more people learn about the benefits of hydrotherapy, we believe that jets will be added to many pools for relaxing massages. The installation of these jets will allow pool owners to enjoy a day at the spa without ever having to leaving their backyard!  Hydrotherapy has been known to:

  • Reduce muscle tension while relieving pain
  • Rehabilitate injured muscles
  • Relieve stress

Water Features

In the past few years, water features such as fountains, waterfalls, water-walls and cascade features dominated the pool construction industry.   This trend continues in 2017. Not only are these features aesthetic masterpieces that will increase the value of your pool, but the sound of running and moving water will help sooth your soul.

There are many different designs & features to meet the preferences and budget of any homeowner.   These days, you can create the pool that you’ve always dreamed of owning.
