Pool Houses and Cabanas by Downunda Pools

Pool Houses and Cabanas

The names “pool house” or “cabana” evoke old Hollywood glamour, with elegant ladies, martinis, and cabana boys fanning them.

Fast forward to 2023…

Today’s pool owners use their outdoor living space for more than lounging. They entertain, exercise, grill, and dine in these areas.  Their poolside cabanas extend their homes, often connecting to outdoor kitchens or standing alone at the pool area’s end. Either style in keeping with their home’s architecture.

Pool House Uses

Pool houses serve various purposes, primarily offering swimmers a nearby restroom and changing area when they use the pool. This backyard convenience allows swimmers to hang their towels and change in and out of swimsuits while eliminating that trail of wet footprints through the main home.

Many pool house plans offer changing and restroom facilities, along with storage for pool equipment and chemicals, freeing up garage space. Some pool house plans offer an outdoor showers for rinsing off or stackable washer and dryer so beach towels and swimsuits can be easily laundered beside the pool.

Cabana Structures

A cabana (from the Spanish word for hut) has three lightweight “walls,” with one open wall facing a pool. Walls need not be permanent; they can be curtains, drapes, or shades designed to block sunlight without permanence. These are used more for lounging and getting out of the sun for a bit while still remaining outdoors.

Whether a pool house or cabana, their proximity provides shady spots for kids and adults, avoiding indoor retreats from the sun. This appeals to parents of young kids, offering nap time for them while Mom and Dad savor the water.

A pool house or cabana lets you enjoy your pool and outdoor time, even when you don’t need to stay outside.
